TOMAS NETOPIL

LONDON PHILHARMONIC ORCHESTRA

Tomas Netopil is one of the most exciting young conductors of this generation. Since winning first prize at the Sir Georg Solti competition in 2002, he has been conducting concerts and operas all over Europe. 

On May 17/19, Tomas Netopil made his debut with the London Philharmonic Orchestra, conducting a programme including symphonies by Haydn and Mozart, Stravinsky Suite No 2, and the Schumann Violin Concerto with Daniel Hope as soloist.

During the 2005/06 he makes other concert debuts, including the Oslo Philharmonic Orchestra and Staatsorchester Stuttgart. In Italy he is conducting four important opera productions, Nozze di Figaro at the Teatro Carlo Felice Genova, Fidelio at the Teatro San Carlo di Napoli, Entführung aus dem Serail at the Teatro Regio Torino and Lucio Silla at the Teatro La Fenice Venezia in a staging by Jürgen Flimm. This production moves to the Salzburger Fespiele in July 2006, where Tomas Netopil makes his debut.

In 2004/05 Tomas Netopil made his debut with the Tonhalle Orchester Zürich and the Filarmonica della Scala. He conducted the new production of Cosi fan tutte at the Teatro Carlo Felice Genova and the final concerts of the Mozart-Festival at the Accademia Santa Cecilia Roma. He inaugurated the concert season at the Teatro Regio di Parma and conducted concerts at the Teatro Comunale Bologna, Teatro Lirico Cagliari, Teatro La Fenice Venezia,  and the MDR  in Leipzig.

In 2005, David Zinman, invited Tomas Netopil to be his assistant at the Aspen Music Festival, giving him  the opportunity to work for with the Cleveland Orchestra.

In May 2004 Tomas Netopil made his debut at the Prague Spring Festival, and immediately after that he conducted Dvorak-Stabat Mater at the Grosses Festspielhaus Salzburg. He opened the 2003/4 season with a production of Flotow´s Martha at the Wiener Volksoper, and  conducted Janacek´s Cunning little Vixen at the Teatro de la Maestranza in Seville.

Tomas Netopil studied violin and conducting in his home town in the Czech republic as well as at the Royal College of Music in Stockholm with the famous Prof. Jorma Panula, who educated many prominent conductors.
